The First 100 Years by Carol Guthrie

100 Years, 100 Stories, please.
December 8, 2008

To help commemorate the Glacier National Park Centennial in 2010, the Centennial Program is calling for experiential short stories about the park to be published in a book.

“We are looking for stories that reflect experiences and revive memories that people have had with Glacier National Park to celebrate the upcoming centennial,” said Wendy Hill, Executive Director of the Glacier Association.

Our committee is hosting an open call for entries by amateur and established writers, ranging from short haikus to stories 2,000 words in length.

Entries may be submitted by to: kassandra_hardy@nps.gov through March 1, 2009. There is no entry fee to submit stories. Of the entries received, 100 will be selected and published in a book to benefit the Centennial Program.

Call for Art Entries

October 7, 2008
As we all know, our National Parks have a long standing history with Art.  Many will argue that it was art that began the preservation movement of protecting our most treasured landscapes.  We all have a little artist in us- whether we like photography, sketching, sewing, digital art, or even story telling!  Art has become a favorite past time in American culture and we hope to continue that tradition as we celebrate Glacier National Park's centennial.

With that said, as part of the Glacier National Park Centennial celebration, the centennial committee is holding a juried art competition to continue the tradition of preserving our heritage for the future, through art.

Entries in the form of digital files are due by March 1, 2009 and may be submitted in any art medium, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, textile and graphic design. Any entries not in these categories may fit under the general category. Check out the Official Centennial Art Application for more details.

Community College Tour
September 22, 2008
We heard from people in the park- now were moving on to the local Colleges.  That's right, we are gearing up for a fall series of Listening Sessions at the Colleges in the area.

Flathead Community College- October 8th, 4-7 PM (AT 139)
University of Montana- October 20th, 4-7 PM (UC 330)

Listening sessions are intended to be informal, yet informational meetings. It is a great way to become engaged in Glacier National Park's Centennial Program and to offer suggestions for centennial events, programs, and projects.  Feel free to come and go as you can.

Check the 'whats new' and the 'calendar of events' for other sessions near you, soon!
